Many people consider bamboo as traditional material, as material for the old works, they don’t see the potential of bamboo in modern architecture.  Instead of the constructions built from concrete, iron, steel, the constructions built from bamboo material bring the architectural beauty modernly, boldly and uniquely, as the light colour palette in architectural picture.

• Bamboo is renewable material. Bamboo has short growth time, after 3-5 years can be harvested. Especially, bamboo can grow in the hard environment, no need fertilizer or pesticide.
• Bamboo is popular in the world. The productivity of bamboo forest is 25 times more than normal forest.
• Bamboo has high durability with the mechanical properties 2-3 times higher than ordinary wood. The bamboo’s tensile is stronger than steel, and it withstands compression better than concrete. Ratio of tensile resistance to specific weight is 6 times greater than that of steel.
• Bamboo has light weight, it’s easy to transport and construct.
• With the outstanding bending ability, bamboo can create the attractive curves for the work and has good vibration resistance.
• Bamboo can prevent soil emosion and landslide, absorb CO2 4 times as much as wooden trees and release 35% more oxygen into atmosphere than wood, constribute to protect ecological environment.

The potential of bamboo in architecture – construction

When amout of the waste from construction industry is burdening the environment and people themeselves, bamboo material doesn’t create waste, but also create the clean-air for architectures. The world increasingly concern environment, crearte potential market, open the bigger direction for bamboo material in the future. If Green Architecture, Ecotecture are the trends of 12st century, bamboo will be sustainable material of 21st century.
