HOW TO TREAT BAMBOO TO AVOID VERMINS?
How to avoid vermins for bamboo is the question for all bamboo architectures. All bamboos of BambuBuild are undergone the process of treatment with many complex stages before using. The purpose of treating bamboo is avoiding vermins for bamboo and increasing the durability of bamboo constructions.
Treating bamboo is extremely important phase. If bamboo is treated not well, it will reduce the life expectancy of the architecture and affect the safety when using.
Step 1: Bending to shape
Bamboo in nature is not straight, but it’s slightly curved. Therefore, after harvesting, workers will heat bamboo until reaching the desired straightness. The workers should adjust the fire accordingly, because fire is too large will affect the color of bamboo or scorch bamboo.
Step 2: Boiling bamboo with chemicals
After shaping, bamboos are placed in the boiled tank with water and Borac chemical. The high temperature form boiling method help the chemical to be easy to permeate into bamboo culm and kill the larvaes in the tree. In addition, the worker will drill a hole in each bamboo internode for chemical permeate into bamboo culm better.
This method helps to separate sugar and starch from the culm and limit vermins later.
The boiling time depends on the amount of bamboo. However, the workers will always base on the bamboo color to determine. When the bamboo color begins to turn brown, it’s possible to finish the process.
Comparing with traditional method, boil bamboo with chemicals will save the time, space and effort.
Step 3: Drying or desiccate
After boiling, bamboo will be dried or desiccated to dry, then it will be used.
- Drying: Putting the bamboo under the shade to dry naturally, however it should be avoided the direct sunlight. Bamboo should be placed vertically to save the space and limited to crack due to overlap. This method helps to keep the natural bamboo color but it will take a long time.
- Desiccate: Bamboo is placed in the furnace, then the workers use the machine to blow hot air to bamboo. This method is faster than dry method, but it won’t keep the natural bamboo color.
Step 4: Preservation
Keeping the bamboo in storage, keep to dry and avoid the sun.
**Note: How to avoid termites for construction?**
The bamboo treatment phase only helps to avoid vermins and increase the durability of bamboo. Because termites intrude from the outside, so the workers will use lime or chemicals to coat the foundation of the buildings to avoid termites.
