The history of World Bamboo Day
The 8th World Bamboo Congress in Thailand declared the 18th of September to be World Bamboo Day (WBD). This pronouncement is an effort to raise the awareness about bamboo globally.
World Bamboo Day was born to emphasise the importance of bamboo to people and the environment.
World Bamboo Day is an opportunity to seek the initiatives to develop bamboo industry and educate people increasingly use bamboo products.
Bamboo characters
- Bamboo is classified as grasses, and also the fastest growing species in the world.
- Bamboo has the strong vitality.
- Bamboo absorbs CO2 4 times as much as normal wooden trees.
- Bamboo is one of the best regenerative resources. After harvesting, bamboo will regenerate itself without planting new trees.
- The bamboo’s tensile is stronger than steel, and it withstands compression better than concrete.
- Bamboo products are used in almost every field of life.
The World Bamboo Organization
The World Bamboo Organization (WBO) is a diverse group consisting of individual people, institutions, commercial businesses, non-profit associations that all share a common interest is BAMBOO. The purpose of World Bamboo Organization is: protect environment, promote to grow bamboo, encourage people to use bamboo and bamboo products.
Every 3 years, The World Bamboo Organization will organize the World Bamboo Congress. This is the place where professionals and bamboo enthusiasts meet, discuss and cooperate on bamboo issues.
Bamboo – Green solution
Bamboo is green solution to solve economic problems and climate change. In 2015, the Africa Governments offered 17 sustainable goals to eradicate poverty. Bamboo directly or indirectly to solve 15 problems mentioned above. (Source)
Bamboo is also green solution for construction. When the world’s climate is heating up, living in bamboo house is the optimum choice. The bamboo architecture is cooler than others, because bamboo releases 35% more oxygen into the atmosphere than an equivalent stand of hardwood trees.
